Prince Harry confirmed he was dating Meghan Markle in November 2016, but one month prior, the actress subtly hinted that they were already in love.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s romance became more than just speculation on November 6, 2016 when the royal was forced to ask the British media to end the “abuse and harassment” of his girlfriend.
It was a highly unusual step for The Firm, who have famously kept their personal lives private, excluding major occasions.
One month before, however, the UK press received wind of Harry’s new romance after Express reported that he was “secretly dating a stunning US actress, model and human rights campaigner.”
With Kensington Palace remaining silent on the matter, rumors spread like wildfire and it didn’t help that Markle posted a cheeky message seemingly directed at her new beau.
Meghan Markle was ‘eager’ to publicize Prince Harry romance
On October 31, 2016, British tabloids claimed Harry was “besotted” with then 35-year-old actress Meghan. At the time, she portrayed Rachel Zane, a beloved attorney in US legal drama Suits.
Sources told Express that the prince was “desperate” to keep their romance under wraps over concerns of the intense unwanted attention but royal biographer Angela Levin believes Meghan had an opposite approach.
Hours after the report was published, the Duchess posted a huge hint that she was involved in a new romance, leading fans to speculate that the Instagram picture was about Harry.
The photo showed two loved-up bananas spooning, one presumably female and the other presumably male. She captioned it: “Sleep tight x”.
Levin, author of Harry, Conversations With The Prince, states that the actress “had obviously been lining to shout from the highest hills that she was dating the world’s most sought-after bachelor.”
But due to palace privacy, she “confined herself to an original, zany hint.”

Even before the October 2016 article, eagle-eyed fans were already suspicious of the royal connection.
Harry often sported a blue, white, and black beaded bracelet which Meghan later began wearing herself.
Her Instagram selfie saw the Suits star reminisce about her solo trip to Soho Farmhouse in Oxford.
It’s unknown if it was Harry’s exact jewelry or if it was a matching one, but one thing was for sure: it was too much of a coincidence.
